Dormy House

Dormy House was created by founder, Matt Welter, to help solve a key part of the labor market issues facing golf resorts around the world – workforce housing. The vision for the company is to establish Dormy House as the on-site living standard for golf resort employees in the United States.

After graduating from college, Matt Welter began caddying at Kingsbarns in the UK where he experienced, first-hand, the struggles of not living near the golf course. Early and long hours combined with lengthy commutes made life difficult as a course employee.  Years later, Matt’s passion for golf led him to Cabot Cape Breton in Nova Scotia. After a three-hour drive from the airport through a remote country, he arrived at his destination.  Throughout the stay, Matt spoke to several employees to learn about their experiences and where they lived in relation to the course. The commuting challenges they faced to arrive to work in a timely manner conjured up the experiences that Matt had while caddying in the UK. His perspective, however, had changed. By this time, Matt had years of experience as the founder and owner of a growing development company. Having completed several successful developments, Matt had a clear understanding of what he wanted to do next. He quickly began planning and investing in the creation of a singular solution that benefited all parties involved, which led to the creation of Dormy House.

Dormy House provides resort employees with quality, move-in ready housing while saving owners considerable time and expense.  Dormy House is a packaged and scalable housing model that requires minimal space. Its ‘hit the ground running model’ provides employees with high quality, move-in ready accommodations within 12 months at a price that meets their income level.  Everything from the selection of the site to the floor plan, to the height and size of the building, to the materials and finishes, are carefully considered to ensure that the build is both cost effective and efficient to serve a very specific resident.

Since the development of Dormy House, two Dormy Houses have been constructed in the Staff Village at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.  They house a total of 62 beds for the employees on roughly one acre of land. There are more developments on the horizon and the future of Dormy House is bright!
