Gary hit his first golf shot on a range in Boone, NC at age 6. He learned the game and fell in love with every aspect of it as a junior at Ridgewood Country Club. Seeing Tom Weiskopf shoot 63 in the opening round of the 1980 US Open cemented golf in his mind as the most interesting pursuit at the highest level. After forging a career in media in all sports Gary became one of the original hosts of Morning Drive on Golf Channel where he remained for the entire 10 year run of the program. The in depth conversation with people in the game has always been the most rewarding aspect of Gary’s work and conducting the final interview on camera with Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Lee Trevino will always be his greatest memory.
