In the Spring of 2019, Josh Smith, Golf Landscape Oil Painter and full-time Orinda CC Golf Course Superintendent, saw a creative opportunity in the golf space. Through Josh’s time working in the golf industry, he had accumulated many golf flags from great golf clubs all around the country. But, he saw no end game for past season-used flags. In his new role, he was also tasked with figuring out a plan with the  plethora of “flown” pin flags cluttering his office. With the situation at hand, Josh envisioned a way to repurpose these cherished symbols of the game into something unique and practical – golf bags.

To turn this concept into a reality, Josh got assistance from his brother Matt, a respected businessman and fellow golf enthusiast.  In early 2020, FlagBag Golf Co. was formed, dedicated to creating one-of-a-kind golf accessories from golf flags.  Their flagship product, the FlagBag, quickly gained popularity among golfers worldwide. Josh’s original idea had resulted in stylish, lightweight golf bags filled with personality, primarily crafted from repurposed golf bags.

Since FlagBags started, the product line has expanded and the company has made strides towards becoming a household name. FlagBag Golf Co. proudly offers the FlagBag and a growing range of innovative, stylish bespoke golf accessories, including duffel bags, headcovers, valuables pouches, and more. Josh has since been joined by partners Joe Cloyes and Buster Posey to continue the growth and reach of the company.

In addition to FlagBags, Josh also has become a sought after golf landscape oil painting artist and has become a favorite painter of many of the best golf architects, PGA Tour Players, and golf lovers. He has work showing many of the best clubs and resorts in the word including Bandon Dunes, Pebble Beach, San Francisco Golf Club, Cypress Point, The Meadow Club, and The California Golf Club. It has quickly become his greatest passion.
